2009 Fall Performance & Education Offerings



The Essentials of Music

This course is designed to introduce the elements of music theory and aural skills essential to excellent performance. The focus of the music theory component will be upon music reading. This includes review of key signatures, note names, scale degrees, rhythms, and understanding the score. The class culminates with attendance of Tosca performed by the Florentine Opera in Milwaukee.

Ages: 13 to adult

Duration: September 29th to November 24th

Tuition: $55.00

The Essentials of Informed Listening and Interpretation

Understanding that music is performed best when the artist knows the musical context, this course aims to supply the student with a broad survey of Western culture from the early baroque to the present and the music that it produced. Various musical genres will be discussed with the class ending in an informed listening of the Puccini’s Tosca performed live by the Florentine Opera in Milwaukee.

Ages: 13 to adult

Duration: September 29th to November 24th

Tuition: $55.00

Kenosha Children’s Choir

Open to students ages 5 –7 and 7-12, choir members will be taught vocal technique, music reading, and group performance. A variety of music genres will be explored and performed. Performances will include, but will not be limited to, a performance with Musica Toscana in November and a performance at the SEWPA gala in January.

Ages: 5-6/7–12
Duration: Tuesdays 6:35—7:10, Sept. 28th to Nov.24th

Tuition: $48/$65



SEWPA Carolers

Meeting weekly, SEWPA Carolers will learn Christmas carols in 2-4 part harmony (unaccompanied). Performing in Dickens era costumes, participants will experience a variety of performance venues from store fronts to private parties. Join us and help spread some holiday cheer!

Ages: 13 to adult

Duration: Oct. 5th—Dec. 23rd

Tuition: $50.00

The Performance Track

Created to help students become better performers through performance, this class exposes students to a broad range of classical music performance experiences. Students will meet for two-hour weekly sessions in which they have approximately a month to learn and rehearse short opera scenes, songs, and arias for their performance. Each student will need to commit to significant independent work between rehearsal sessions. Student will also be presented with opportunities to view opera performances with the class in addition to its scheduled sessions.

Duration: Wednesdays 4:30-6:20 Sept. 23rd—Nov. 30th
