La Cenerentola is an operatic drama giocoso by Gioachino Rossini, based on the fairy tale Cinderella. Delight as the Opera ala Carte and Fine Arts Camp participants perform this classic tale in Italian with several twists. In La Cenerentola, the wicked stepmother is replaced by a stepfather, Don Magnifico, the Fairy Godmother is Alidoro, a philosopher and the Prince’s tutor, and Cinderella is identified not by her glass slipper but by her bracelet.
Opera ala Carte and Fine Arts Camp presents the magic, color, and beauty of Mozart’s most popular opera, The Magic Flute. Tamino, the hero, slays a dragon, but Papageno claims he was the slayer. Papageno is punished for his lie by Three Ladies who beg Tamino to rescue Princess Pamina, who is being held against her will by Monostatos. After falling in love with her picture, Tamino agree to find her. He is given a magic flute to aid him and Papageno is commanded to accompany him in his journey to the Monostatos’ domain.
