What is the schedule for each session? Session I rehearsals begin May 23rd and performances will be June 24th and 25th, 2011 with an optional “encore” performance on July 31st, 2011. Rehearsals for Session I will be after 3 p.m. weekdays, daily.
Session II rehearsals begin June 27th and performances will be on July 28th through the 31st. Rehearsals for Session II would be three to four days a week in the afternoons and evenings.
What shows are being performed? The repertoire will be determined based on auditions. The performances on June 24th and 25th will be two one act operas. Possible selections are Gianni Schicchi, Elixor of Love, Cosi fan tutte, or Dido and Aeneus. The July performances will be full length productions. The Gondoliers is one of the pieces under consideration for Session II.
July 31st is a SEWPA Encores performance. This will be a combination of encores chosen by audience votes at the various performances and the directors of the operas.
What is the tuition cost for each of your programs? Tuition for Opera ala Carte is $300.00 for one session and $400.00 if you choose do perform in both sessions.
Upon enrollment, you will be asked for a $50.00 non-refundable deposit to secure your spot in our program/performances. This deposit will be credited towards your tuition. In addition, you will be required to write $25.00 costume deposit which will be held and returned to you at the end of the season when all of your costumes are returned in excellent condition to SEWPA.
What does my tuition include? Tuition covers the cost for a partipant materials, teachers, and facilities rental. Also included in the cost of tuition is the cost of our productions which includes costumes, sets, and production staff, marketing, and performance royalties to name a few.
When is tuition due? Payment for Session I is due May 1st, 2011. Payment for Session II is due June 1st, 2011.
Students who are applying for scholarships can pay a separate check for the applied for scholarship amount. If the scholarship is granted, the check will be returned when the requirements of the scholarship are met.
Do you offer sibling discounts? Appreciation and involvement in the Fine Arts is often a family affair, and as such this year SEWPA is offering sibling discounts to families multiple children in our summer program. Tuition for the second child will be at a 20% discount not including costume deposit and 25% for each subsequent child, not including costume deposit.
Are there any other tuition discounts? SEWPA offers a variety of work/study scholarships ranging from $50 to $100 for Opera ala Carte participants. There are many opportunities for work scholarships from marketing, set and float construction, costuming, working at Fine Arts Camp, and/or at performances. Work/Study Scholarship information will be available soon and will be located on the Work/Study scholarship page under Opera ala Carte. Applications and description of the scholarships will be available. Deadline for all Work/Study scholarships is 5/1/11.
Larger scholarships are available based on financial need. Please contact SEWPA for more information and an application.
When will casting be announced? We will announce casting my March 1st, 2011 via e-mail. At that time we will ask that you make a decision on your participation by March 19th, 2011. If you choose to accept the role, we will ask for a $50 non-refundable deposit applicable toward your tuition.
Can I have a job and/or go to summer school and participate in Opera ala Carte? Yes. Most rehearsals take place in the afternoon and evening. We do not rehearse on the weekends. Please note on your audition form when you are available and we will cast you accordingly. Rehearsals are as little as three nights a week to a larger commitment.
What if I do not want to be in certain operas? If there are certain operas that you are not interested in being cast in, please note which operas on your audition form and we will not cast you in that opera.
What if I am only interested in being involved backstage? There are plenty of opportunities for involvement in our productions that do not involve being on stage. There is no tuition for backstage involvement. Please contact us informing us of your interest and for more information about backstage involvement.
